Perched above the city of Santa Fe lies the former location of Fort Marcy on a hill that is now occupied by a giant cross called the Cross of the Martyrs
.From this high vantage point there is a 360 degree view of the mountains and the entire city of Santa Fe below. It is a spectacular place to see a sunset and even to have a picnic.
After sunset it is good place to linger for the spectacular city light view and the stars at night.
To get to the Cross of the Martyrs, take Paseo de Peralta ( the loop road around the plaza) and turn north or away from the plaza onto Otero street, then right on Kearney street and up the hill to the top of the street to take a right at the entrance to the Cross of the Martyrs parking lot.
It is located only about 5 blocks from the plaza and is also accessible from Passeo de Peralta street via a long winding path. But unless you’ve got the lungs for it, I recommend coming in from the parking lot.
